United Hatzalah Is the home of 6,500 volunteers all around Israel: religious, secular, Jewish and non Jewish alike. All together are united and devoted for one mission: saving lives! Hundreds of volunteers ride on ambucycles (ambulance-motorbike) and are ready to leave everything, drive through traffic and run to the scene of an emergency to save a life as soon as an emergency call comes in.

My name is Dr Ariel Lipschuetz, I work as an anesthesiologist in Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. I also volunteer as United Hatzalah now for 17 years. Last February I was badly injured in a ski accident. My life was suddenly in danger. I was rescued by wonderful EMS personnel and evacuated to a hospital for emergency surgery. Since then, I rehabilited and slowly returned to my normal life. But there is one thing that will never leave me: the fact that the team of responders were not able to properly treat me on that long ride to the hospital. They didn’t have the right equipment to care for me and monitor my condition. They lacked the right medication to help and treat my terrible pain and nausea. They only had the proper equipment to evacuate me safely (special matters that we don’t have in Israel yet.)

I realized one thing: Even though United Hatzalah arrives at the scene fast, and usually are the first to respond, it still takes time for the patient to arrive to the emergency department and get the right treatment. For some patients this delay in treatment can be fatal. For this reason, I have a vision to create a new unit in United Hatzalah, the “Mobile Critical Care team”.

This unit would operate solely by experienced doctors who would bring everything we have in a standard trauma room to the field: advanced monitor – defibrillator, portable ultrasound, portable laboratory, surgical kits, complete trauma set, blood products, advanced ventilator, special vacuum stretcher, advanced automatic suction, video laryngoscope, chest compression system, and an IO kit.

The goal is : Bring the hospital to the patient- No matter where they are!
We will supply critical care from the very first moment of an emergency and utilize this crucial time to treat the patient until we arrive to the emergency department.
